LANTA Offers Discounted Bus Rates to Allentown Students

December 2017 – Earlier this month, ASD administrators, Building 21 leaders, community partners and students gathered in what will eventually become the schools Makerspace for an open house to share what life is like inside Building 21 with prospective students. Now in its third year of operation, Building 21 Allentown has amassed a significant resume of community partners that support its unique curriculum and approach to learning.

On January 27, State Senator Pat Browne and Representatives Mike Schlossberg and Peter Schweyer presented Allentown School District officials with a $1 million grant for Building 21 Allentown High School.

A large mural in the Building 21 Allentown Cafeteria/Meeting Center is taking shape. As part of our Art Pathways, students have been working with Baum School of Art teacher Sean Delonas to create a mural depicting the school. Across the top of the mural are the words “Passion – Power – Agency” which is representative of the character of the school. The center will feature an artistic rendition of the school’s mascot, the phoenix.

On April 18, Secretary of Education Pedro Rivera spent part of his time in the Lehigh Valley visiting Building 21 Allentown High School. Secretary Rivera enjoyed time meeting with students, faculty, administrators, and Board Members at the end of the school day. In interviews with local media, he stated how impressed he was with Building 21 Allentown and everyone he met at the school. Secretary Rivera is a proponent of project-based learning which is the basis of the Building 21 concept.

Building 21 Allentown student Crystaneya Greene is a gifted student artist whose work was selected for the Pennsylvania Art Education Association’s (PAEA) Youth Art Month Exhibit.
